Our solution

6% repair levy
A repair levy of 6% of the sales price would ensure that sufficient funds could be raised for all repairs of consumer electronics. With sales of 195 billion euros in 2022 in the EU alone, 11.7 billion euros could have been collected for repairs. The value of all repairs carried out in the EU amounted to 9.87 billion euros.

Together instead of alone
Instead of shifting the responsibility for repairs to consumers, we propose joint responsibility. Manufacturers, dealers and consumers are to each pay 2% of the repair levy in order to ensure equal rights and obligations on all sides.

All under one roof
All players in consumer electronics will be gathered under one roof. Bureaucratic, financial and time hurdles must be removed. We want to create a strong platform where consumers can find out about all repair options and connect dealers. In addition, we will offer educational work as well as further training and, in the future, certifications.
What does a repair levy do?
1. Closing the cycle
A repair levy closes the loop of electronics production by taking into account the true costs of manufacturing and disposing of equipment. It promotes repairs beyond the purchase of new products, thus reducing e-waste and environmental pollution.
2. Incentivization
If there is the possibility of free repairs, we hope that the will to have devices repaired will increase and that we can all benefit from the positive effects of less electronic waste.
3. Fair conditions
The repair levy creates fair conditions by giving everyone the opportunity to finance expensive repairs. It reduces social inequalities and ensures equal opportunities for all, regardless of income.
4. Sustainable economy
The introduction of a repair levy promotes a sustainable economy by strengthening the repair industry and creating new jobs. This helps extend the life of electronic products and supports local economic development.
5. Better protection
The repair levy could eliminate the need for expensive insurance, as it frees consumers from high premiums and rigorous inspections. This would promote repair instead of hindering it, as the levy would cover the costs of repairs.
6. Protection for the environment
A repair levy helps conserve resources by extending the lifespan of electronic products and reducing the need for new products. This results in a lower environmental impact due to the reduction of e-waste.
